Jigawa

Jigawa is situated in the north-western part of the country with a population of 5,590,272 (Male: 51% Female 49%). 86% of the state’s wards boast of functional primary healthcare facilities. Infant mortality stands at 83 per1000 live-births; unmet need for family planning is 98.7% and the use of contraceptives stands at 1.3% (MICS, 2016).

Kaduna

Kaduna State, in northwest Nigeria, has a population of 7.7 million. The state boasts a functional Primary Health Facility in every ward. Immunisation coverage is 25% and antenatal visit attendance has improved from 30% in 2008 to 43.8% in 2017. Contraceptive prevalence rate is 24.10% while unmet need for family planning is 22%. Kano

Kano is located in northwest Nigeria. It has an estimated population of 13.4 million. The principal inhabitants of the state are the Hausa/Fulani people. Maternal mortality is 576/100,000 (NDHIS 2013) and child mortality rate is 103/1000 live births. (MICS 2016/17).

Katsina

Katsina State is located in the Sahel Savannah in northwest Nigeria. It has a total population of nearly 6 million. Each ward has at least one functional primary health facility and the state has seen great improvement in some health indicators: delivery by skill birth attendant has risen from 5.1% in 2008 to 20.8% in 2017. However, antenatal attendance stands at 33.40% and immunisation coverage is 6%. The unmet need for child spacing is 29.5%. (MICs 2016/2017)

Yobe

Yobe is located in northeast Nigeria and borders four Nigerian states as well as the Republic of Niger. It has a population of 3.4 million. Its economy is mainly based on agriculture. Under-five mortality stands at 102 per 1000, immunisation coverage is 7%, and antenatal care attendance is 26.6%. Most wards in in the state (98.4%) have a functional health facility (MICs 2016/2017).

Zamfara

Zamfara is located in northwest Nigeria and has a population of 4.1 million (800,000 children under five). Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) is1,100 deaths per100,000 per live births. Infant mortality is 104/1000 per live births. Contraceptive prevalence rate has increased from from 3.3% in 2011 to 5% 2016. (MIC survey 2011-2016).
